We are a busy bunch of quilters that strive to provide quilts as our small and humble way of saying "thanks" to our returning troops. Rita Pennington (garipenn@att.net) is our "Drill Sergeant" and she keeps the (quilting) troops moving and motivated. We have 6 monthly sew-ins North of I88: St. Charles, Elgin, Rolling Meadows, Crest Hill, Geneva and Montgomery. See side bar for more info. Join us on Facebook: Illinois Quilts of Valor
Thank you!

WelcomeYouHome USMC Jake Tannenbaum & Richard Boschsero
Last night I had the honor of being a part of a welcome home ceremony for USMC Jake Tannenbaum & Richard Boschsero in Naperville. To describe the feeling you have among a crowd that night would be: enthusiastic, privileged and LOVE! As the crowd grew larger and larger, the enthusiasm did as well. We assembled at a church, given the route and instructions on what to expect and we were off. I might be wrong on the assembly line, but there was of course the police car, fire trucks, the limo to pick the two heroes from their home, lots of motorcyclists, "cages"--enclosed vehicles.
The Marines were picked up at the home of Jake Tannenbaum and escorted to the VFW where another crowd awaited. When we came onto the grounds of the VFW there are people holding flags on either side of the road---gotta love those colors! Donna Morsovillo, founder of Welcomeyouhome.org has a wonderful program for these returning warriors with lots of presentations and of course we gave them each a quilt! If you ever get a chance to attend one of these ceremonies--DO IT! For more pictures of the event, go to www.welcomeyouhome.org and under Gallery you find their names. It was one great turnout.
Rita
