Juan was awarded his QOV last week. Thank you Juan for your service!!
We are a busy bunch of quilters that strive to provide quilts as our small and humble way of saying "thanks" to our returning troops. Rita Pennington (garipenn@att.net) is our "Drill Sergeant" and she keeps the (quilting) troops moving and motivated. We have 6 monthly sew-ins North of I88: St. Charles, Elgin, Rolling Meadows, Crest Hill, Geneva and Montgomery. See side bar for more info. Join us on Facebook: Illinois Quilts of Valor
Thank you!

Roberts in Crest Hill
hosted their first QOV sew-in yesterday. To tell you how much needed is this area, we awarded two veterans QOV's at this first sew-in. Thank you Dave and Steven for your bravery, sacrifice and service! The enthusiasm in that room was priceless! We had people who could not wait to get started, they brought sew-n-tell! One machine quilter and one in the making were "discovered in the group" AND a "courier" who will schlep whatever between here and there!! Just LOVE when someone steps up and says...I will do .......... I am proud to say this is #6 QOV sewing location in this "Chicagoland area" (that I know of). Two ladies came from the Kankakee area just to see what we were all about. Oh yes, they are off to a good start. Welcome Crest Hill! and good/great job Pat C. Here are some pictures.
Did this to show the pattern. Always looking for pattern ideas.

VTAC Graduation...6 graduates plus 1
Rita -
I'm forwarding a copy of the thank you I received from Ken L. He was awarded a QOV at the VTAC graduation ceremony on Fri 5/8. He is a Navy Capt USN Reservist who had been a keynote speaker at the VTAC graduation in the past and has been deployed to Iraq and Afghanistan at least 4 times in the recent years. On Friday, he was not involved in the ceremony but he was in the audience. After I introduced and gave the general info/background on the QOVF, before I gave the quilts to the 6 graduates, I asked him to come forward and he was "wrapped" with his own QOV. He was speechless and very surprised to be recognized. He received a standing ovation. It was a wonderful experience to present him with his quilt.
One of the graduates started his thank you speech with thanking "the ladies who gave me the quilt. I came to graduation ceremony when I first started in the program and I've looked forward to receiving my own quilt since that day!"
It's such an honor to be involved with this amazing 2nd chance program as a representative of the QOVF.

Notes and pictures of our May/Batavia sew-in
Very nice crowd today! Some working on finishing tops, some starting new tops. We again backed a few tops readying for quilting. Over 18 tops came in today!
Here are some pictures:
Just beautiful...love the different setting and look at the two tops Sandy made---those are her first two! Good job, Sandy!
Wow, and being I have so much space for more words, I'll make mention of some things we discussed today.
Batavia Show in July. We will need people to man this show this year.
Opportunity Quilt...If you have a Facebook page and want to help sell raffle tickets, post on your FB page. I made sales that way
We are looking for quality tops. Our kits are made up so they'll measure 55 x 65 (the required size for a QOV. BUT we're assuming you are using a 1/4" seam.
Press---Please press as you go. Pressing when the top is complete is kinda too late! and hard to do!
Just reminders to slow down and do a nice job.
Martha, great job on the panels and embroidered blocks!
Ideas for the donated stars. How many would you like :)

Saturday, May 2, 3 PM, VFW in Batavia
Marine 1st Lt. Matt Johnson, is returning home from Iraq on May 2, 2015.
As noted in the Beacon, Batavia VFW is hosting his homecoming.
Anyone want to join me in awarding Matt his QOV? Let me know.
It's official!! New QOV sew-ins location starting..........from Pat C
2nd Thursday afternoon/evenings from 3-7 pm (8 pm for cleanup if needed), beginning on May 14. Roberts (2011 Weber Rd., Crest Hill) has provided us with wonderful cutting, ironing and sewing areas.
It would be great if you could RSVP if you plan to attend, but please come anway if you find yourself free.
We will provide a simple pattern but you may use your own if you wish. We have some donated material, but again you may use your own. Don't forget your sewing machine and supplies. There is much to do -- cutting, ironing, sewing. I am a very beginner quilter, so don't let lack of experience stop you.
