Monday --cut in; Tuesday--Sew in Reminder!

Monday---cut in at Sewing Etc, Yorkville.  I must take advantage of the generosity Kelly has bestowed on us.  She had a couple "special" dies made for our scraps...and boy do we have scraps!  So, we're trying to gather AT LEAST every other Monday to cut scraps.  If you can help, we should be there by 9:30 AM and see what we can get done by noon (ish).

Tuesday---Sew in at Prairie Shop Quilts.   I have several tops that need to get to size, so we will be doing borders and then making backings for quilts to be ready for quilting.   So, bring along your cutting tools and sewing machines!  Ordering out didn't work, so we bring a dish to pass---can't beat our potluck dishes!!!

We also received several more boxes of strips for string quilting----lots of colors!!  Thank you, Liz.  Hope to get more pictures posted of the "creativity" these strips have made.  If you need any strips to finish your tops, drop me a line and I'll bring your colors along.

See ya Monday and/or Tuesday!!

The Sign

Start using 'the sign.'

This is a pretty neat thirty second video...

Have you ever seen one of our military walking past you and wanted to convey to them your thanks, but weren't sure how, or it felt awkward?

Recently, a gentleman from Seattle created a gesture which could be used and has started a movement to get the word out.

Please everybody take just a moment to watch...

The Gratitude Campaign...and then forward it to your friends!

Beloit presentation

Avis Lind and I presented a quilt to a  Vietnam Medic.  It was our pleasure to meet with him and he seemed really pleased with the presentation.

Sew In Reminder

We had a very nice sew-in yesterday in Yorkville.  I came home with I believe 9 tops--some need borders and then all will be ready for quilting.

Saturday, March 23rd, we have a sew-in scheduled at Prairie Shop Quilts in Batavia.  This is the "snow" date...First Tuesday of this month was our first cancellation, I believe.  So, we continue on...see ya Saturday.

Busy weekend

A few quilts were presented over the weekend.  Thought I'd share this thank you from a Vietnam vet:

Thank you so very much again for the beautiful quilt you gave me.  I went downstairs last night and sat looking at it for a while.  Then I brought it upstairs and spread it on the bed.  It was both warm and comforting to have it there.  Please share my deep and humble (yes, I can be humble!) appreciation with everyone who had a hand in its construction.
Rick

Hope to see a few of you at the cut-in,  if not tomorrow at the sew-in. (or both?)

A last minute cut in...

If you're having cabin fever really bad and would like to get out, we are meeting in Yorkville Monday morning to make up a few kits for the sew-in scheduled on Tuesday.  Could use a few more hands to help and maybe we can get it done by noon???  Bring along a ruler and rotary cutter.  Kelly also obtained for our use a die  that will help immensely to get our scraps in control.

VTAC Waukegan IL: Leave no veteran behind...not in the field or back at home

I had the privilege/honor of attending the inaugural graduation ceremony of veterans court  in Waukegan, IL, yesterday.   Veteran's Treatment and Assistance Court (VTAC) is a program which keeps veterans out of the regular court system and connects them with treatment.  Veterans charged with non-violent offenses must successfully comply with conditions imposed by VTAC.  They undergo 12 - 30 months of probation before graduating.  They had their first two graduates who completed this therapeutic intensive monitoring.  So, they received their Quilt of Valor along with the the head of probation and the judge whom I found out were also veterans.  A lot of veterans in that crowd yesterday!  Their motto:  Leave no veteran behind...not in the field or back at home.

Volunteers for the Show in Schaumburg

We have our volunteers for the show...thank you.  I have submitted names for your passes.  This year you will need a separate pass for each day.   I will be making some sort of work schedule for each day.  If you have a preference of either first seeing the show and working in the afternoon, or vice versa, let me know.  We will have the one booth where we will have information and blocks to be signed for donation---that will run all day.  In the afternoon, from 2-5, we also need to man the Make-It booth where people will be coming in to make blocks.  I was thinking we will only need 3 people in the "fundraising" booth and maybe the ones seeing the show first could come back to relieve for breaks or lunch as well.  So, if you have a preference, let me know.  I'm open for suggestions.

PS... last year we wore red (patriotic) shirts.  Is that possible for this year?

Stay home

Roads are getting bad.  I'm here but not for long.

Well, a few diehards made it in but we were out of there in less than an hour.  Bonita closed the shop.  Some have called/emailed about the cutting...for that I thank you.  The donated fabric for the show is in.  Don't know how it'll be getting out tomorrow, but will if I can get some fabric to the shop...did you read that she's having  March 6 is No More Snow Sale    Email or call me and let me know.

Snow watch

Just heard from Bonita.  She is planning  on going into the shop and staying until the heavy snow starts (they are saying mid afternoon).  I'm bringing potato soup!

Sharing a Thank you

I received this thank you and wanted to share:
I would like to say thank you very much for the quilt I received during my recent RWW in Nashville. I love this and it was a special moment during the ceremony when they presented these.

Fabric on its way

According to UPS tracking, the fabric for the show should arrive Monday before the end of the day.  This is fabric that will be used in the "Make-It Take It" booth at the Sewing & Quilt EXPO, Schaumburg where people will be making blocks.  The pattern chosen by Marianne Fons is a string quilt.  So, we'll need strips cut in various strips from 1 1/2" - 3" wide.  See me on Tuesday if you can help.  Or, if you can't come on Tuesday, email me or give me a call.

Thanks and hope you're having a great weekend.  Rita
