Saturday, February 4th is QOV National Sewing Day. It's a day locations throughout the country have set aside to sew "together" making thank you quilts for our Veterans.
Land of Lincoln Quilts of Valor has two locations this year:
St. Charles Moose Lodge, 2250 IL Rt 38, 10-4 pm. If you are working on a project, go ahead and bring it along so when you complete, we have kits. Bring along sewing machine, your quilting supplies, a small cutting mat and maybe an iron/mat. The two kits we have will have some subcutting and being we are expecting a nice group, might have better access to cutting and pressing. We are having potluck lunch. (NOTE: we are expecting special visitors) Also, bring along your power strip/extension cords. Electricity is on the outer walls of the hall only. I had mentioned my concern if everyone brought a crock pot. Didn't say you cannot bring one, but was thinking if you did, you can keep it heating at your station until we set up for lunch? I hope you have registered for the prizes the Foundation has. NOTE: I have had a few questions about membership. You do not have to be a member of QOV to sew on National Sewing Day or any day, for that matter. It does not cost you to sew a Quilt of Valor for a Veteran, just your time and thank you!
Sugar Grove Fire Department, 25 Municipal Drive, 9-4 pm. This is hosted by the Common Threads Quilt Guild of Sugar
Grove Bring your sewing machine and notions if you plan to sew. Plenty
of opportunity to cut and iron. Bring a lunch. Contact Betty Ivins at
bettyivins49@gmail.com if you would like a kit prepared for you.
So, fill them bobbins and come to have a great time!

We are a busy bunch of quilters that strive to provide quilts as our small and humble way of saying "thanks" to our returning troops. Rita Pennington (garipenn@att.net) is our "Drill Sergeant" and she keeps the (quilting) troops moving and motivated. We have 6 monthly sew-ins North of I88: St. Charles, Elgin, Rolling Meadows, Crest Hill, Geneva and Montgomery. See side bar for more info. Join us on Facebook: Illinois Quilts of Valor
Thank you!

2017 Opportunity Quilt is posted!
check out our 2017 Opportunity Quilt. We get lots of donations and as you know, lots of fabric we cannot use for our Veteran Quilts. So, with the Christmas Fabric donation, Alberta G whipped up this quilt and Elvira was so kind to quilt it (Thank you so much ladies). Won't it make a nice Christmas present for someone...we draw conveniently in November! So, let me know how many tickets you want!

Notes on Montgomery sew in
Well, know that I tried to load pictures from yesterday's sew-in. Having camera "issues" again. Might be time to get new camera! But had a very busy day yesterday. Ladies piecing, cutting and bundling batting to tops to be readied for machine quilting...a lot done! Note that we will be meeting monthly now at the VFW (I will confirm with them). Because winter isn't over, check here or the blog for any cancellations due to weather, or any other reasons.

Montgomery, VFW Sew-in, January 17
Yep, that time again...next Tuesday, we meet to continue our efforts to wrap each veteran with a Quilt of Valor. Bring sewing machines, extension cord, quilting tools. We'll have one ironing board that I know of and I have two irons. I'm bringing along a roll of batting hoping a few will cut and bundle. See you next Tuesday.
btw, the kits are ready for Nat'l Sewing Day! Thank you to the ladies who took home "homework"!!!

Happy New Year
Please bring your calendars with you tomorrow. We have an invite to
have a booth at the International Quilt Show at the Rosemont, April
6-8th with set up date, Wednesday, April 5th. So, pending enough
volunteers, I can fill out contract and to them by due date, January
13th.
So, for tomorrow, if you're completing a given kit, bring sewing machine. Otherwise rotary cutter, rulers, scissors (for batting bundles assembly), an iron/ironing board if possible, for making kits for Natl Sewing Day. Teamwork, gotta love it!
