Milton R was awarded his QOV today. Thank you sir for your service. Big thanks to Joyce and Bob Jensen for representing Quilts of Valor. Note: #399 quilts awarded in 2014. Our honor and pleasure for sure!
Well, you know I have tech problems with pictures. I did find a picture that was sent to me by Cheryl who made a presentation earlier this year!
We are a busy bunch of quilters that strive to provide quilts as our small and humble way of saying "thanks" to our returning troops. Rita Pennington (garipenn@att.net) is our "Drill Sergeant" and she keeps the (quilting) troops moving and motivated. We have 6 monthly sew-ins North of I88: St. Charles, Elgin, Rolling Meadows, Crest Hill, Geneva and Montgomery. See side bar for more info. Join us on Facebook: Illinois Quilts of Valor
Thank you!

Christmas/Hanukkah
I did post my Christmas/Hanukkah wish on FB but guess I failed to post here. Well, I hope you all had as great a Christmas and/or Hanukkah as I did. They keep getting better and better. New grandchild/first Christmas, family, friends...ah, yes, feeling very blessed!
Merry Christmas, and those who celebrated Hanukkah, I hope it was great. Thanks to all the volunteers who are on this mission of covering our veterans with the "thank you" quilts. Thanks for your gift of time, ..you just seem to always be there when we need that extra mile. The last sew-in we didn't have heat. What did we do sitting there sewing with our coats on... the subject of what our men and women must have gone through in the cold and heat came up. So,thank you and God bless our veterans!
Now, I'm on my way to meet Kim, our new leader at Linda Z's starting next month!

Elgin Sew In
Yesterday was a great day for our Elgin group. Rebecca and Boyd brought
in quilt tops, we finished making blocks on our group project and
Rebecca kindly offered to assemble the quilt.
Patty taught a new block, a floating star, for work at home. Boyd and Shirley bundled 11 quilts to longarm. The highlight was presenting a quilt to Larry, a Vietnam veteran.
Thank you Larry for your service!

Sew-In Reminder Notice---Elgin---Tuesday
Hope you all had a great Thanksgiving. We have so much to be thankful for, due in part to those who serve our country.
Tuesday,
December 9th will be our next sewing date at Christ the Lord Lutheran
Church in Elgin. The time is 10 to 2 and remember to bring a sack lunch
and some sewing supplies/machines if you can. Come for whatever part of
the day you can.
We
have some exciting news for the day. Besides finishing up the quilt we
started last month we will have the honor of presenting a quilt to a
veteran from Cary who served in the Army during the Tet Offensive in
Vietnam. There will be more show and tell patterns and more bundles to
prepare.
Christ the Lord is located on Highland Ave. three blocks WEST of Randall Road in Elgin.
See you then!

December Sew In...Batavia
41 COMPLETED TOPS AND 20 TOPS!!!!!
Ha, wondered why my car was so full!!! You know, if you have not been a part of a presentation, you ought to really consider it cause you should be there accepting the applauds and standing ovations...and don't forget the hugs...not I. You're reading the blog AND Facebook. I put out a plea for binding and 41 "appear"!!!! Well, not to mention the ones that have been coming in throughout the month.
Speaking of presentations...we have a huge one coming up on Sunday,December 14. It's in Sheridan...don't have specifics yet, but let me know you are interested and as soon as I know, I'll keep you informed.
Here is our show and tell from today!

Thankful and Sew-in Reminder
Hope you all had a wonderful Thanksgiving. I'm thankful for what we do, why we do it and whom we do it with! Spending the rest of the weekend decorating the house, piecing a quilt top that's been cut since 2011 and pulling fabrics for QOV for our Feb 7th 2nd Annual Sewing Day. Hope you're saving that date. We have 6 locations...listed on this blog on the right. AND it's a Saturday for those who have been asking for a weekend sew-in.
Check your calendars to let me know if you can help December 14th in Sheridan. Haven't heard any details other than the date yet, but will keep you posted when I do.
We meet at Prairie Star Quilt Shop in Batavia Tuesday, 10 AM - ?? See you there!

L O N G day yesterday, but GOOD!
We "gathered" for a sew-in in Yorkville yesterday...but had heat issues. So, ladies grabbed blocks and fabric to go home and sew! Was invited to give a QOV speech to the Village Quilters of Lake Bluff last night. Thank you ladies for having me and for your interest in Quilts of Valor. Their "cause" for 2015 is QOV!! Looking forward to working with them. Here are the tops that came in at the sew in yesterday.
